The Huthi plan calls for rebels to "stop all attacks on Saudi territory by drones, ballistic missiles and other means" SANAA - Yemen's Huthi rebels unexpectedly announced late Friday that they planned to halt all attacks on Saudi Arabia as part of a peace initiative to end their country's devastating conflict, five years after they captured the capital Sanaa. The announcement comes after a wave of drone strikes last weekend on Saudi oil installations knocked out half of the kingdom's production and sent shock waves through energy markets. The Iran-backed Huthis claimed responsibility for the attacks, but Riyadh's ally Washington has condemned them as an "act of war", placing the blame on Tehran and announcing new sanctions against the Islamic republic.Mehdi al-Mashat, head of the Huthis' supreme political council, announced in a speech marking the 2014 rebel seizure of Sanaa "the halt of all attacks against the territory of Saudi Arabia".He added that he hoped "the gesture … [Read more...] about Yemen rebels announce plan to halt attacks on Saudi Arabia

SINGAPORE: Singapore on Tuesday (Sep 17) condemned the attacks on two Saudi Arabia oil plants, which included the world's biggest petroleum processing facility. On Saturday, a wave of drones struck oil producer Saudi Aramco's facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais. The attacks halved the kingdom's output and prompted a price hike not seen in decades. "Singapore condemns the attacks on Saudi Aramco’s facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Sep 14, 2019," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a statement. "These attacks threaten regional stability and global energy security," added the ministry. Oil prices initially surged more than 20 per cent after the open on Sunday evening, with Brent crude posting its biggest intraday gain since the 1990-1991 Gulf crisis. It later pulled back as various nations announced that they would tap emergency supplies to keep the world supplied with oil. While … [Read more...] about Singapore condemns attacks on Saudi Arabia oil facilities
Drone attacks knock out half of Saudi Arabia oil supplyDUBAI, United Arab Emirates: Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched drone attacks on the world’s largest oil processing facility in Saudi Arabia and a major oil field Saturday, sparking huge fires and halting about half of the supplies from the world’s largest exporter of oil. The attacks were the latest of many drone assaults on the kingdom’s oil infrastructure in recent weeks, but easily the most damaging. They raise concerns about the global oil supply and likely will further increase tensions across the Persian Gulf amid an escalating crisis between the US and Iran over its unraveling nuclear deal with world powers. The attacks resulted in “the temporary suspension of production operations” at the Abqaiq oil processing facility and the Khurais oil field, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said in a statement carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency. The fires “were … [Read more...] about Drone attacks knock out half of Saudi Arabia oil supply

But the latest addition at the 70,000-capacity King Fahd International Stadium in the Saudi capital on Oct. 11 is another thing altogether. Industry pundits see this as an important milestone that signifies BTS’ phenomenal popularity around the world. RIYADH: Saudi Arabia said on Sunday that it wants to avert war in the region but stands ready to respond with “all strength” following last week’s attacks on Saudi oil assets, telling Iran that the ball was now in its court. Riyadh has accused Tehran of ordering Tuesday’s drone strikes on two oil pumping stations in the kingdom, claimed by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group. Two days earlier, four vessels, including two Saudi oil tankers, were sabotaged off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. Iran has denied involvement in either operation, which come as Washington and the Islamic Republic spar over sanctions and the US military presence in the region, raising concerns about a potential US-Iran conflict. “The kingdom of Saudi Arabia does not want a war in the region nor does it seek that,“ Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir told a news conference. “It will do what it can to prevent this war and at the same time it … [Read more...] about Saudi Arabia says it seeks to avert war, ball in Iran’s court
