After sweeping back to power in Telangana for a second successive term with a huge mandate from the people, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) continues to dominate the state’s politics.Similar to his first four and a half years in power, KCR has continued to reign as an invincible leader in the last one year, as the opposition appears to be in total disarray, unable to find a leader who can match the TRS supremo politically or otherwise.Like the BJP at the Centre, the TRS upset all the calculations of political pundits in the December 7, 2018 assembly elections of a possible change in the government in the state. KCR pulled off a remarkable victory with his party winning 88 seats in the 119-member state assembly. And within no time, he managed to reduce the opposition further by attracting 12 out of 19 lawmakers from the Congress and one out of two from the Telugu Desam Party, besides two independents into the TRS. I would be happier earning a fixed return of 9-10% now: Rajat Sharma, Sana Securities
Everything will eventually fall. Why that is not happening now is no reason to justify or rationalise the extremely expensive nature of the markets. I remain as worried as I was the last time I spoke to you, says Rajat Sharma, CEO, Sana Securities. Excerpts from an interview with ETNOW. On markets & green shootsI remain worried. I am not saying that there are stocks in this market which you should not go out and buy. There are more stocks that you should buy than avoid. In fact, the overvalued stocks are very few in number. Majority of the stocks are now valued below their fair price. Buying happens for reasons like value, growth, earnings potential. People look at all sorts of matrix but if the top 10-15 stocks start correcting, then the selling would be widespread. Selling does not discriminate between largecaps, smallcaps and midcaps. We have seen that over and over again. So when I say I am worried about investing in these markets, I mean I am worried about investing even in … [Read more...] about I would be happier earning a fixed return of 9-10% now: Rajat Sharma, Sana Securities
Telecom industry is broken, needs to be fixed: Airtel CEO
New Delhi: Bharti Airtel CEO, India South Asia, Gopal Vittal on Thursday said the telecom sector in the country was in a “broken situation and needed to be fixed ”. Speaking at the ET 5G Congress 2019, Vittal highlighted that Rs 35,000 crore stuck on input credit was severely constraining the capacity of the industry and called for reforms to enable the sector to revive and invest in 5G technology. “There are a few key enablers that will make it happen,” Vittal said, elaborating that the cost of doing business must go down. “The spectrum usage charge (SUC), the taxes levied, the litigation that the industry is subjected to, the USO fund about wherein Rs 50,000 crore is sitting with the government or indeed the Rs 35,000 crore of money that is stuck on input credit on GST,” he explained. The second, measure Vittal said, was improving on the “ease of doing business”. “We are still subjected to a myriad level of approvals”, … [Read more...] about Telecom industry is broken, needs to be fixed: Airtel CEO
Trade setup: Nifty rises, but fails to cross 20-DMA; stay cautious
In a session dominated by weekly expiry of options, NSE Nifty on Thursday spent the entire day in 11,940 to 12,000 range, while trading on a positive note. These two points were very crucial as they had the maximum Call and Put open interest during the day. The index came off from its day’s high after testing the 12,000 level and finally settled with a gain of 61.65 points or 0.52 per cent at 11,971.80. The headline index halted its pullback at the short-term 20-DMA, which is at 11,986. It would be critical for the index to close above this level to move higher. If this doesn’t happen, Nifty can form a Head and Shoulder formation over the coming days. It is important to note that there is no such formation as of now, but it can get formed if Nifty shows retracement and does not move past the red-dashed like drawn on the charts. Friday’s session may again see a quiet start with resistance coming in at 12,000 and 12,065 levels. Supports are at at 11,910 and 11,870 … [Read more...] about Trade setup: Nifty rises, but fails to cross 20-DMA; stay cautious
In 2019, alpha will be generated in mid and smallcaps: Manish Sonthalia, Motilal Oswal AM-PMS
There is a whole lot of passive-isation happening in the largecap space, Manish Sonthalia, Chief Investment Officer and the Director of the India Zen Fund, Motilal Oswal AM-PMS, tells ET Now.Edited excerpts: How are you dealing with the market volatility? On one side, there is the promise that good companies will make a comeback but on the other side, there is serious price erosion in Eicher, Page Industries or Asian Paints. You focus on quality at reasonable price, but that theme is getting challenged. There are no shortcuts and you do not change your strategies when the mood of the market changes. It is as simple as that. The long-term trajectory on earnings on these companies remain perfectly intact if you are not seeing a major sector rotation like the capex cycle picking up. The valuations are not going to fall because there is simply too much of capital to be deployed. When stocks are cheap, they are cheap for a reason and we have seen many of these names lose 70%, 80%, 90% of … [Read more...] about In 2019, alpha will be generated in mid and smallcaps: Manish Sonthalia, Motilal Oswal AM-PMS
