NEW DELHI: The defence ministry’s new department of military affair (DMA), headed by chief of defence staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, is now taking concrete shape with two joint secretaries, 13 deputy secretaries and 25 undersecretaries being assigned to it. The DMA or “Sainya Karya Vibhag” is the fifth department in the MoD after defence, defence production, defence R&D and ex-servicemen welfare, all of which are headed by secretary-level civilian officials. “It will take some time for the final structure of the DMA, which will have an appropriate mix of civilian and military officers, to take shape,” said an official. As per the December 30 gazette notification, the DMA will handle the Army, Navy and IAF, the Territorial Army and revenue procurements and “works” of the three Services.
