New Delhi: State-run hydro power giant NHPC is planning to develop three hydropower projects with a total capacity of 155 megawatt (MW) in Ladakh along with a solar project of 50 MW capacity. A K Singh, chief managing director, NHPC, on Friday presented a future plan to R K Mathur, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, to develop three hydropower projects at Khalsi with 80 MW, Kanyunche with 45 MW, and Takmaching with 30 MW in Ladakh with a solar project at Phyang. “While explaining the techno-commercial viability of projects, NHPC proposed that taking advantage of high solar irradiance of the region, blending of hydro power with solar power may also be explored,” said a press release.NHPC has already commissioned 45 MW Nimmo Bazgo in Leh and 44 MW Chutak hydropower projects in Kargil. “The Lt. New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday issued national directives for coronavirus management, including compulsory use of face masks and social distancing norms. The guidelines for the phased re-opening -- Unlock 1 -- of the nationwide lockdown will come into effect from June 1, 2020, and will be effective till June 30, 2020. "Face coverings are compulsory in public places, workplaces and during transport. Individuals must maintain a minimum distance of 6 feet in public places. Shops will ensure physical distancing among customers and will not allow more than 5 persons at a time," read the directives. MHA has ordered that not more than 50 people can attend marriage related gatherings and only 20 people will be allowed for funerals. BBMP officials said the Rs 673 crore-project will help the city from flooding and also stop encroachment of drains. “We have covered remodeling and constructing concrete retaining walls along 389-km of primary and secondary drains. The city has a total network of 848-km of storm water drains. We have got approval to take up works on the 75-km drain last year and another 40-km drain this year,” Prahlad, Chief Engineer (Storm Water Drain) at BBMP, said. Concerns, however, were raised over the concept of building concrete around the storm water drains as it would stop the water from seeping into the ground.
