Mushrooms have helped lift villagers in Jingdong Yi autonomous county, Yunnan province, out of poverty, thanks to a cultivation program launched by a university in Zhejiang province. Located in an area famous for its abundance of wild mushrooms, Wangjia was once one of 48 villages in the county mired deep in poverty due to a lack of transportation, a manpower shortage and backward production facilities. In 2013, Zhejiang University in Hangzhou teamed up with county authorities and dispatched a team of experts in tea planting, mushroom cultivation and poultry breeding to help farmers improve their agricultural skills and sales methods. In May of the same year, Chen Zaiming, associate professor at the university's Institute of Vegetable Science, was offered a job as an adviser to the county government with an employment period of eight years. County officials wanted Chen to teach them how to exploit wild mushroom resources. Remembering India’s valiant hero Chandra Shekhar Azad on his 90th death anniversary
New Delhi: February 27, 2021, marks the 90th death anniversary of the Indian revolutionary Chandra Shekhar Azad. Azad was killed on this day in 1931 in Alfred Park, Allahabad after an associate betrayed him. For quite some time, he held the well-armed police that circled him at bay, single-handedly with a small pistol and a few cartridges. However, left with just one bullet, he shot himself in the head and lived up to his resolve that he would never be arrested and dragged to the gallows to be hanged. Below are some facts on the freedom fighter who sacrificed his life for the nation: Chandra Shekhar Azad was born on July 23, 1906, in Bhavra village, Jhabua district, Madhya Pradesh to Pandit Sita Ram Tiwari and Jagrani Devi. He received his early schooling in Bhavra. He went to the Sanskrit Pathashala at Varanasi for higher studies. Young Chandra Shekhar was fascinated by and drawn to the great national upsurge of the non-violent, non-cooperation movement of ... » Learn More about Remembering India’s valiant hero Chandra Shekhar Azad on his 90th death anniversary

Modi gets ready for the Battle of 2024
'The BJP's all-India plans can be expected to become clearer around 2022-2023, particularly if -- as some anticipate -- the senior Congress leadership cracks, broadly as between the Nehru-Gandhi loyalists and those who may be termed 'pro-changers',' observes Arun Bhatnagar, a retired IAS officer. Photograph: R Senthil Kumar/PTI Photo Lal Bahadur Shastris slogan, 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan', electrified the nation in the mid-1960s and is as relevant today as it was then. It is key to unity and growth alike. The next few months could be critical for the future of Indian politics. Shortly after the Biden-Harris administration took office in Washington, DC, a disengagement of troops and armaments commenced in India's frontier with China in Ladakh.
