MANILA, Philippines — Audiences all over the world are feeling the love this week with the return of one of Disney animation’s most beloved characters Simba in Jon Favreau’s “live-action” recreation of the 1994 box-office champion and Oscar-winning film The Lion King. Notice the “live-action” in close quotes? That’s not a mistake. This visually stunning film is not a literal live-action adaptation similar to Aladdin but an impressive showcase of advanced filmmaking technology originally developed by Jon and his team for Disney’s Jungle Book about three years ago. “In Jungle Book, we were essentially using the same motion capture technology for performers and cameras as had been developed 10 years prior for Avatar,” the director stated during the press conference for the movie in Beverly Hills this week. “But … [Read more...] about Innovation & tradition rule in The Lion King
Close on the heels of “live-action” remakes of “Aladdin” and “Dumbo” and on the precipice of a reborn “The Little Mermaid,” ‘’The Lion King” is back, too. Round and round we go. Cue Savannah sunrise. Don’t count on a new “Song of the South,” but much of the Disney library will soon have been outfitted with digital clothes for the Internet era. It’s easy to greet these remakes both cynically and a little eagerly. In the case of “The Lion King,” the songs are still good, the Shakespearean story still solid. And, well, Beyonce’s in it. And yet Jon Favreau’s “The Lion King,” so abundant with realistic simulations of the natural world, is … [Read more...] about ‘Lion King’ returns but it’s harder to feel the love
A study by the Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee may explain why you can’t sleep at night after a cup of coffee in the late afternoon while it may not be a problem for others. The report, "Genetics, Metabolism and Individual Responses to Caffeine", looks to our genes for answers. “We are all unique coffee drinkers. Our genetic make-up programs our reaction to caffeine, just as it programs our hair color and eye color,” said the study’s lead author, Dr. JW Langer. The two genetic factors that determine one’s caffeine intake are the liver’s speed of metabolization and the sensitivity of the central nervous system to caffeine’s stimulating impacts. Langer and his team found there are three types of coffee drinkers: 1. High sensitivity to caffeine People in this group most likely struggle to sleep after a cup of coffee in the afternoon because of their sensitive central nervous system and slow metabolism. It is … [Read more...] about What type of coffee drinker are you?
