Hyderabad: Fabricated bills from filling stations with a call ‘not to vote for Modi again’ have gone viral on social media for the last few days. A filling station in Andhra’s Chittoor district lodged a complaint with the cybercrimes police seeking action against the creators of the bill. The bill gives a call at the end, “If you want to reduce petrol price, don’t vote Modi again’. The bill that resembles the original bill was generated on August 20 on a Mumbai filling station address. Later, several other such bills were generated and circulated on social media. Many people kept sharing and forwarding the bills for fun or out of anger over the rise in fuel charges. The bill issued by this petrol bunk is all in capital letters. The entire bill was retained unchanged but the last line of “Thank you visit again” has been meddled with to accommodate the controversial advice. “Customers who usually do not ask for bills have started asking for one in the last few days, ... » Learn More about Fuel bills urging people to not vote for Narendra Modi in 2019 go viral, dealer in Andhra Pradesh files case
When will Modi cut high taxes on fuels?
The logic of deregulation was that the consumer was protected no matter what the price of crude. Illustration: Uttam Ghosh/ Rediff.com The price of petrol has crossed Rs 100 in parts of India for the first time. A parallel development is that of the total revenue that the government receives, 33% or one-third now comes from tax on fuel. India's consumers pay the highest rate of tax on the petrol and diesel that they consume. The nations that follow India on the list of those with high taxes are all European nations and America and Japan. These are, of course, places where the consumers are much better off than us and the government can in fact extract money from them without significant hurt. In India, the majority of consumers are poor. And a tax on fuel affects all of us equally and hurts the poor disproportionately. The autorickshaw owner and the Uber driver pay the same to fuel up their vehicle as the corporate executive and the business ... » Learn More about When will Modi cut high taxes on fuels?

Supreme Court declines to proceed on contempt action against Maharashtra forest officials
The Supreme Court on Friday declined to proceed further with a contempt action against Maharashtra forest officials over the killing of Avni, a “man-eater” tigress, in 2018, after realising that the decision to kill the cat had been confirmed by the court itself. “If the decision to kill the tigress was confirmed by the Supreme Court, we are not going to reopen it,” Chief Justice Sharad A. Bobde, leading a three-Judge Bench, addressed petitioner Sangeeta Dogra. Ms. Dogra persisted that the officials took part in “celebrations” after the tigress was shot down. “The investigation [into the death of the tigress] was going on, how could they celebrate at a function?” Ms. Dogra claimed. Advocate Kartik N. Shukul, for the forest officials, however categorically denied that his clients were “directly or indirectly” a part of any celebrations. Chief Justice Bobde said the celebrations may have been by the villagers. “The officers have sent a note that they have not celebrated,” the CJI ... » Learn More about Supreme Court declines to proceed on contempt action against Maharashtra forest officials
