COVID-19 Highlights January 15: Mumbai reports 574 new cases; Maharashtra has 52,152 active cases

Mumbai: On Friday, Maharashtra reported 3,145 new cases of the coronavirus, and with that, the state's cumulative count climbed to 19,84,768. As many as 45 patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours. The death toll of the state has now climbed to 50,336. Along with that, 3,500 patients were fully cured and discharged today, and the number of recoveries has now climbed to 18,81,088. There are 52,152 active cases in the state at present. Here are some of the other COVID-19 highlights of January 15 from Mumbai, Maharashtra, and the rest of the country: Mumbai reports 574 new cases With 574 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, the case tally of the financial capital of the country climbed to 3,01,652. According to the latest data provided by BMC, eight persons lost their lives to the virus in the past 24 hours. The death toll due to COVID-19 in Mumbai now stands at 11,227. Mumbai: Dadar reports 10 new coronavirus cases; Dharavi tally climbs to 3,879

On the other hand, four persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Mahim, taking the tally to 4,696. However, 4,429 persons have been cured and discharged and there are as many as 123 active cases in the area as of now. The G/North Ward, which includes Dharavi, Mahim and Dadar, is the second worst-hit ward in the BMC limits out of the 24 administrative wards. So far, the ward has registered 13,446 coronavirus cases, which includes 12,579 recoveries and 238 active cases. Daimler to cut production over chip shortage: Report

Daimler will cut production and reduce working hours at a second factory, the latest automaker to suffer from a global shortage of semiconductors, the Handelsblatt daily reported on Thursday, citing unnamed company sources.Automakers and electronics makers are facing a shortage of chips as consumer demand bounces back from a slump caused by the coronavirus pandemic that led to manufacturing delays.The Mercedes maker will reduce production in Bremen, the newspaper reported, with the plant possibly even being closed in early February for some days.Daimler was not immediately available to comment.On Tuesday, the company said it was cutting hours at its compact car plant in Rastatt.Rival Volkswagen said on Wednesday it would further cut car production at its main plant in northern Germany due to the shortage of semiconductors that has hit the industry worldwide.On Thursday, Volkswagen's brand Audi also announced that it would cut hours for about 10,000 employees at its Neckarsulm and … [Read more...] about Daimler to cut production over chip shortage: Report
