Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa opened the newly-built Kalaburagi Greenfield Airport for the public use amid cheering crowd in the city on Friday.Deputy Chief Minister and Kalaburagi In-Charge Govind Karjol, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Heavy and Medium Industry Minister Jagadish Shettar, Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu Chauhan, Look Sabha Members Umesh Jadhav (Kalaburagi) and Bhagwant Khuba (Bidar) were among those present at the event. Mr. Yediyurappa, along with his cabinet colleagues and BJP leaders, arrived from Bengaluru in a Star Air flight that began commercial operations between Bengaluru and Kalaburagi on the day and landed in the airport about 1.45 pm. Yediyurappa arrived from Bengaluru by Star airlines to Kalaburagi on the first flight which landed at around 1.45 pm. The 3.25 km runway laid at Kalaburagi Airport is the second-longest in Karnataka after Bengaluru Airport. What was to be a vacation turned into a funeral for a couple as their six-month-old infant who was on his maiden journey from Australia to Chennai was declared dead early Thursday morning upon arrival at the Chennai International Airport. The toddler, Hrithik and his parents Sakthi Murugan and Geetha had flown from Victoria in Australia to spend time with their family at Vengaivasal near Tambaram. The trio had a layover at Kuala Lumpur before arriving at the city airport. “Shortly before the flight had landed at Chennai airport, the parents had fed the child. Staff at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) displayed their readiness, coordination and efficiency when they came to the rescue of a 62-year-old man who suffered a cardiac arrest at Terminal 2 on Wednesday. Accompanied by his daughter, the man was at the airport to receive his wife who was returning from the U.K. The airport doctor and paramedics attended to him after he was found breathless and drowsy in the parking lot.On examination, the doctor diagnosed the visitor with acute congestive cardiac failure. He also found that the patient had a history of diabetes, hypertension and ischemic heart disease and advised immediate hospitalisation.The man was transferred to Nanavati Hospital in the airport ambulance.
