PUTRAJAYA: Two Covid-19 outbreaks have been detected in Penang and Kuala Lumpur involving detainees at immigration depots. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the infection cluster detected at the Juru Immigration detention centre in Penang had 167 confirmed cases. "The positive cases under this cluster were discovered from a targeted screening exercise conducted on detainees at the detention centre since March 9. "So far, 393 individuals have been screened and 167 of them tested positive for the virus," he said in his daily Covid-19 press updates on Friday (March 19). At the Jalan Duta immigration depot in Kuala Lumpur, four immigration detainees tested positive from a Covid-19 screening conducted on them before they were deported home. PUTRAJAYA: Six more people have succumbed to Covid-19 in Malaysia, taking the country's death toll to 1,244. The victims were aged 56 to 84 and all were Malaysian citizens, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in his daily Covid-19 statement on Tuesday (March 23). "Today's deaths involved two cases in Sarawak, two in Selangor, one in Kelantan and one in Johor. "The ministry expresses its condolences to their family members," said Dr Noor Hisham. Both Sarawak cases were at Hospital Sibu, while the Selangor ones were at Hospital Sungai Buloh. KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Bhd yesterday inked a power purchase agreement term sheet with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) to provide 90 megawatt (MW) of power supply to the Malaysia LNG complex in Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu for a term of 20 years. PUTRAJAYA: The hearing of an appeal by Datuk Seri Najib Razak will proceed on Monday (April 5) after the Court of Appeal dismissed the former prime minister's application to adjourn the matter. A panel of three appellate court judges, chaired by Justice Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil, said the bench was unanimous in its decision that there was "no sufficient reason" to warrant an adjournment. He said Najib must make a proper written application to adjourn the hearing in his appeal in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case, where the Pekan MP was convicted of seven graft-related charges involving RM42mil from SRC's funds. PUTRAJAYA: A desire to facilitate kids with physical and mental disabilities in physiotherapy has spurred a group of staffers from Tengku Anis Hospital in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, to develop a standing bed. Having worked on this project since 2015 and three prototypes later, the team’s dedication paid off after they emerged as winner of the Health Ministry’s main innovation award for their creation. PETALING JAYA: Ten new Covid-19 clusters involving five states and two federal territories were recorded on Monday (March 22), bringing the total active clusters in the country to 411, says the Health Ministry.
