Recycling is struggling in much of the United States, and companies like Coca-Cola say they are committed to fixing it. The beverage industry helps pay for pizza parties celebrating top elementary school recyclers and lends money to companies that process used plastic. Coca-Cola and Pepsi, along with Dow, the plastics producer, support nonprofit groups like Keep America Beautiful, which organize events like litter cleanups. A recent video funded partly by Keep America Beautiful featured models dancing through a recycling facility in Brooklyn, which one advertising writer said makes “recycling sexy.” By 2030, Coca-Cola wants all of its packaging to be made from at least 50 percent recycled content. But one approach to recycling that many of these companies do not support has proved to actually work: container deposit laws, more commonly known as bottle bills, which cost them lots of money. In the 10 states where consumers can collect a few cents when they return an empty … [Read more...] about Beverage companies embrace recycling, until it costs them

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has denied taking selfies during court proceedings but defended that he used his handphone as a mirror to check his personal appearance. The issue was raised by ad hoc prosecutor Datuk V. Sithambaram who requested the court to issue a directive or guideline following a widely circulated news report saying Najib had taken selfies during his trial. Najib’s lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah stood up and said the report was published by news portal The Edge and had pointed out the reporter who sat at the public gallery. “From where he (the reporter) was sitting, he seemed to be able to conclude that Najib was taking a selfie and in fact he is able to say (in his story) that Najib looked sad from behind (Najib is sitting in the dock, where the reporter could see Najib from the back). “I just asked him (Najib) and he said he never do that as he looked at it as a mirror, because he got something … [Read more...] about I’m not taking selfies, I used handphone as a mirror: Najib
(The Philippine Star) - May 6, 2019 - 12:00am Forgive as the Lord forgave you. — Colossians 3:13 I arrived early at my church to help set up for an event. A woman stood crying at the opposite end of the sanctuary. She’d been cruel and gossiped about me in the past, so I quickly drowned out her sobs with a vacuum cleaner. Why should I care about someone who didn’t like me? When the Holy Spirit reminded me how much God had forgiven me, I crossed the room. The woman shared that her baby had been in the hospital for months. We cried, embraced, and prayed for her daughter. After working through our differences, we’re now good friends. In Matthew 18, Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to a king who decided to settle his accounts. A servant who owed a staggering amount of money pleaded for mercy. Soon after the king canceled his debt, that servant tracked down and condemned a man who owed him far less than what he’d owed the king. … [Read more...] about Should I forgive?

Any suggestions po? Mag-iipon na lang po ba kami at bibili na lang ng health insurance paguwi namin sa Pinas? Ang downside po kasi e baka may pre-existing conditions na by that time. Looking forward to your inputs po. Thanks and God bless. Answer: Hi Resie. I’m glad to hear that you currently have a good health insurance coverage in Singapore. I also admire your proactive attitude about your retirement and a good retirement definitely includes your health matters taken care of. It is … [Read more...] about An OFW asks, ‘Should I buy my health insurance now for my retirement in the Philippines 10 years from now?’
My daughter, a first-year National University of Singapore (NUS) student, once told me a joke: What do NUS and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) students have in common? Answer: They all applied to NUS. I think she read it in NUSWhispers. After last week, there is another answer: They may be secretly filmed showering on campus. Singapore Management University doesn't look so bad now. Last week, besides Avengers: Endgame spoilers, all anyone could talk about was NUS student Monica Baey. She posted an Instagram Story about catching another student filming her in the shower, which resulted in Facebook posts by two ministers and a disappointing NUS town hall meeting on Thursday. We also learnt that 26 cases of sexual offence had been brought before the NUS disciplinary board over the past three years. That works out to be approximatelyone sexual offence every six weeks. NTU: "Hold my beer." Also last week, two cases of an NTU student being filmed in the shower were reported within … [Read more...] about S M Ong: My daughter is in NUS, should I be worried?
