Boris Johnson’s win in the UK elections has lent confidence to Indian businesses in Britain on the road ahead for Brexit. Johnson returned as the Prime Minister with a clear mandate. His Conservative party won 365 of the total 650 seats. In his victory speech, Boris Johnson said on the 31st of January, Britain will leave the European Union, the biggest exporter of its financial services. This sets the stage for Brexit even as London is yet to secure new trading terms with the EU to follow transition. “Businesses like economy care for clarity. This mandate will bring clarity to both as the new government has the wherewithal to deliver on its intent. Eventually, both will be in a better place,” said, Group Chief Financial Officer at software services provider Mastek Ltd Abhishek Singh.UK accounts for 75 per cent of Mastek’s business. Welcoming new lawmakers, Boris Johnson vows a speedy Brexit
London: Prime Minister Boris Johnson will welcome 109 new Conservative lawmakers to parliament on Monday, promising to honour his election pledges to get Brexit done as soon as possible and boost funding to the state health service. After winning a commanding majority in last week's election, Johnson will seek to speed up the approval by parliament of his withdrawal agreement with the European Union, and to start ploughing money into health, education and policing. The premier, who won over many traditional supporters of the main opposition Labour Party in northern and central England, has proclaimed he will lead a "people's government" and "repay the public's trust by getting Brexit done". "This election and the new generation of MPs (members of parliament) that have resulted from Labour towns turning blue will help change our politics for the better," said a source in Johnson's Downing Street official residence said. "The PM has been very clear that we have a responsibility to … [Read more...] about Welcoming new lawmakers, Boris Johnson vows a speedy Brexit

Election-weary British voters gave Prime Minister Boris Johnson a "powerful new mandate" in the historic polls as his Conservative Party on Friday won a commanding majority in Parliament to allow him to finalise United Kingdom's divorce deal with the European Union next month. Johnson, 55, who vigorously campaigned on a simple slogan "Get Brexit done," vowed that he will work "night and day" to repay the trust of the voters after the Conservatives' most emphatic majority since the 1980s under Margaret Thatcher. A 364-seat haul gave the party a solid 78-seat majority in the 650-strong House of Commons. Addressing a victory rally, Johnson hailed a “new dawn” which "unarguably" broke the Brexit deadlock and … [Read more...] about Johnson wins historic UK election, vows Brexit by Jan 31

Britain’s ruling conservative party, led by Boris Johnson, has won the general election with a thumping majority. A decisive outcome to a Brexit-dominated election should allow Johnson to fulfil his plan to take the UK out of the European Union by January. Analysts see this as a positive for about two dozen stocks in the auto, pharma and IT sectors that have exposure to the country. The potential unravelling of regulatory changes in the new order could spell opportunity in the form of new business — but only over the medium-to-long term, according to most of the analysts. In recent years, risk and regulatory compliance-related work has been a growth driver for the BFSI in Indian IT. Top Indian software services firms like Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra and Mindtree get 20-40% of revenue from Europe. However, some of the companies which have set up shop in the UK for gaining access to the European markets too, may have to rework their business … [Read more...] about Indian firms with Europe exposure on D-Street watchlist
Beyond Brexit: Global challenges facing new UK government
Editor's note: Jonathan Arnott is a former member of the European Parliament. The article reflects the author's opinions, and not necessarily the views of CGTN. Politics across Europe has been turbulent in recent years. Chaos has been the order of the day in many European countries with new parties and unstable governments, short-term coalitions and alliances changing from issue to issue. In recent years, the United Kingdom went in the opposite direction: it finally brought some clarity to its own government. Years of stalemate over Brexit has paralyzed the governments of David Cameron, Theresa May and Boris Johnson. In that respect, Boris Johnson's determination to call – and win – a general election in December will be seen as an inspired move that has broken the logjam. The scale of his victory was emphatic, with the Conservatives taking almost 44 percent of the vote – more than they have achieved since the 1980s. Meanwhile, Labour fell to their lowest level since … [Read more...] about Beyond Brexit: Global challenges facing new UK government
