Shyam Srinivasan on why Federal Bank restructured book is half of estimates
Customers who have gone for loan restructuring between December and March 31 will be roughly about 1-1.2% of our portfolio, says Shyam Srinivasan, MD & CEO, Federal BankEarlier, you had projected that Rs 3,500-crore loans will need to be restructured but the request has come for only Rs 1,500 crore. It is great news but how did this drastic fall come about? The big difference between last quarter and this quarter is the reality. People have started seeing businesses doing better and generally the preference is not to be a restructured customer. Attorney General William Barr, a Trump supporter, announced on December 1 that the Justice Department had not uncovered any significant fraud that could have affected the election result. On December 14, the Electoral College met in each of the State capitals to formalise Mr. Biden’s victory by casting 306 votes for Biden/Kamala Harris versus 232 for Trump/Mike Pence. … [Read more...] about A stress test for American democracy
Biden puts US back into fight to slow global warming
Washington: President Joe Biden returned the United States to the worldwide fight to slow global warming in one of his first official acts and immediately launched a series of climate-friendly efforts that would transform how Americans drive and get their power. "A cry for survival comes from the planet itself," Biden said in his inaugural address on Wednesday. "A cry that can't be any more desperate or any more clear now." Biden signed an executive order rejoining the Paris climate accord within hours of taking the oath of office, fulfilling a campaign pledge. The move undoes the US withdrawal ordered by predecessor Donald Trump, who belittled the science behind climate efforts, loosened regulations on heat-trapping oil, gas and coal emissions, and spurred oil and gas leasing in pristine Arctic tundra and other wilderness. The Paris accord commits 195 countries and other signatories to come up with a goal to reduce carbon pollution and monitor and report their fossil fuel emissions. … [Read more...] about Biden puts US back into fight to slow global warming
