One of the main complaints about WhatsApp is the lack of a free option to transfer chat history between iOS and Android. However, that is set to change soon! According to wabetainfo, WhatsApp is testing a feature which allows chat history migration between iOS and Android devices. A screenshot provided by the site shows that the user has to update WhatsApp to the latest version to use the feature. While there is no specific timeline on when WhatsApp will roll out the feature it is nonetheless good news for users who want to keep the chat history when they switch between mobile platforms. There are currently third party options which users have to pay to migrate their chat history, but WhatsApp states that these unofficial apps violate its Terms of Service as the company cannot validate their security practices. App tracking transparency feature in Apple’s iOS 14.5 update prevents apps from tracking your data

There are plenty of things we’re looking forward to in the upcoming Apple iOS 14.5 software update – there’s the PS5 DualSense Controller via PS Remote Play, as well as the ability to unlock your iPhone with your Apple Watch when you have your mask on. However, one of the biggest updates that will impact all users is Apple’s new App Tracking Transparency feature. It’s common knowledge that advertisers and developers track users via apps, third party software and internet searches – it’s how these companies know so much about you, and allows advertisers to effectively target consumers, which explains how you always get hit with ads that are related to your interests and lifestyle. This was further made easier with Apple IDFA, or Identifier for Advertisers – a device identifier assigned to a user’s device that allows advertisers to track and target users within iOS apps. It works similarly to your web browser cookies, and provides advertisers with information and data regarding ... » Learn More about App tracking transparency feature in Apple’s iOS 14.5 update prevents apps from tracking your data

Alibaba Cloud launches its first personal cloud product, challenging Baidu and Tencent

Alibaba Cloud, the data backbone of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding , has launched its first personal cloud product Alibaba Cloud Drive, challenging established players like Baidu and Tencent Holdings in China. The service, which opened for public testing on Monday for both Android and iOS systems, offers users up to two terabytes of free storage and “unlimited” uploading and downloading speeds, according to a company statement. However, these speeds depend on the Internet provider. Founded in 2009, Alibaba Cloud is China’s biggest cloud computing services provider, mainly focused on enterprise businesses. The expansion into the personal cloud service market is aimed at gaining a slice of a segment that had 404 million users in 2020, according to estimates from data mining and analysis firm iiMedia Research. Search engine giant Baidu topped the personal cloud service market in China with nearly 40 million monthly active users (MAU) for its Baidu Wangpan as of ... » Learn More about Alibaba Cloud launches its first personal cloud product, challenging Baidu and Tencent

Android handsets, iPhones send your device data to Google, Apple every four and half minutes

Over the past few years, a lot of companies have come under radar for data sharing and regarding user privacy. Be it Apple, Google, Facebook or any other company, all have been asked about it at least once in the last three to four years. And if you are one of those who dislike sharing data with companies, you must’ve been extra cautious. But no matter how much you try to control your data being given to firms, a new report states that it happens anyway, specially when it comes to Apple iPhones and Google Android phones. According to a report by The Irish Times , both Android phones and iPhones send data to their companies every four and a half minutes. It has been added that the data is shared regardless of whether you are actively working on your phone or not. The report cites a study made by Trinity College Dublin’s Professor Doug Leith. “I think most people accept that Apple and Google need to collect data from our phones to provide services such as iCloud or Google ... » Learn More about Android handsets, iPhones send your device data to Google, Apple every four and half minutes

Four ways to quickly reduce battery drain on your iPhone

Apple released the latest version of its iOS operating system last year, adding several battery-related improvements and enhancements, but users have still reported battery drain issues all the way up to iOS 14.4.2, which is currently the latest stable version available to all users. However, many of these battery issues are due to misconfigured systems or just due to apps plugging into a certain service and draining the battery. Fixing some of these issues is actually easy and does not require any technical expertise whatsoever, so if you have been experiencing unusual battery drain on iOS 14, read on to know how to fix those issues. 1. Turn on Low Power Mode When you toggle on your iPhone's Low Power Mode, it temporarily stops your phone from connecting to the net to check for new mail or automatically download videos and music. Opposition targets government’s ‘information ops’

The government was again accused of running an illicit propaganda campaign against its critics yesterday, as the opposition launched its mobile "censure debates". A group of opposition MPs working to promote public participation in politics gathered at a Bangkok hotel to launch the first in a series of debates targeting the Prayut administration. Prachachart Party secretary-general Thawee Sodsong accused the government of using taxpayers' money to sow division in society through its so-called Information Operations (IO). He described the IO campaign as a "crime". According to Mr Thawee, during this fiscal year, about 2 billion baht has been set aside to fund government public relations, another 8 billion baht for training, more than 10 billion baht for security work and the other 10 billion baht for security operations in the South. These budgets were in reality abused to fund IOs with an intent to generate hatred among communities, he said. Car buyers today: Who cares who made it – will my smartphone connect?

Brand loyalty is a thing of the past for car owners. A recent survey shows that buyers no longer care as much whether there’s a Prancing Horse or Blue Oval on top of the bonnet. More important: Will my smartphone connect to the car’s infotainment system? Will I be able to answer messages from the car? Will I be able to get my Spotify playlists while driving? Seven out of 10 respondents (69%) taking part in a survey by Germany’s IT association Bitkom said that Android or iOS connectivity was a more important question before buying. The brand of the next car, on the other hand, is only an important matter for 65%. The younger the buyer, the more important good smartphone integration via CarPlay, Android Auto or manufacturer software is, according to the research. In the group of up to 29-year-olds, this is vital to 80% of drivers, and to 78% of 30 to 49-year-olds, meaning the vast majority of under 50-year-olds want to bring their own music and apps with them when driving. ... » Learn More about Car buyers today: Who cares who made it – will my smartphone connect?
