An American teenager from Hyderabad, Riya Uppalapati, has been selected for the “Atlanta Innovators” talent award given to people under the age of 25 in the USA for their contribution to safeguarding the environment and its promotion. Riya, a senior at Walton High School in Atlanta, started and heads an NGO “Forever Earth” that promotes environmental awareness, both locally and internationally. She had recently published a book “In my Backyard - a personal story of the Devastating Effects of Petroleum on our Environment and Economy” that focuses on environmental problems due to petroleum and oil industry. She believes that people can create ideas that are powerful and effective by learning more about what is happening around the world and in their backyard. She argues that electric vehicles that are run on energy produced from renewable sources only should be encouraged. Celebrated Gujarati writer Mohammad Mankad, 90, was honoured with Sahitya Gaurav Puraskar 2018 by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for his contribution towards Gujarati literature. Gujarati Sahitya Academy confers Sahitya Gaurav Puraskar to writers who have made noteworthy contributions in Gujarati, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu and Kutchi languages. “Mohammad Mankad has done excellent service to the world through his cultural and contemplative literature for more than seven decades. He has illuminated Gujarati literature through his contribution,” said Rupani, adding that how necessary it is for the future generations to take inspiration, understand and preserve the magnifi cient heritage of literature. Microsoft unveils Xbox Series X to make gaming more ‘lifelike, immersive and responsive’
LOS ANGELES: Microsoft has unveiled a name and look for its new gaming console, the Xbox Series X, promising a still-more immersive experience as it fends off threats from streaming and rival Sony. The US company in June pointed to the technical abilities of its next-generation console when it announced "Project Scarlett", saying the new machine would be four times more powerful than the current Xbox One X, which launched in 2013. At a presentation late Thursday at The Game Awards 2019, Microsoft showed off the tower-like new console for the first time and also unveiled a new wireless controller. It said older titles would remain compatible with the Series X, while promising a new gaming experience "where worlds are even more lifelike, immersive, responsive and surprising".
