Guwahati: Images of a fully grown tiger "relaxing" on a bed inside a house-cum-shop in Assam's flooded Kaziranga National Park Thursday created a buzz on social media, bringing under spotlight the plight of animals in the state battling a deluge. The pictures of the Royal Bengal Tiger on the bed at a shop at Harmoti near Bagori range of the World Heritage Site along National Highway 37 on Thursday were widely shared on social media after the Wildlife Trust of India posted it on Twitter. British presenter puts ‘racist’ royal baby tweet with monkey picture; gets fired
London: British broadcaster Danny Baker was fired on Thursday by the BBC over his "stupid unthinking gag" on Twitter about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's newborn son, Archie. The now deleted tweet, which has been circulated on social media, showed a black and white photo of a couple holding hands with a chimpanzee dressed in clothes with the caption: "Royal Baby leaves hospital". The 61-year-old presenter was accused of mocking the Duchess of Sussex's racial heritage. A BBC spokesperson said: "This was a serious error of judgment." The corporation added that Baker's tweet "goes against the values we as a station aim to embody. "Danny's a brilliant broadcaster but will no longer be presenting a weekly show with us," the spokesperson said. India is one of the few countries with no record of anti-Semitism as its society is known for openness and compassion, the Indian envoy to the US has said. Addressing the Jewish community, eminent Indian-Americans and Congressional staffers, at a Hanukkah celebrations event, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, New Delhi’s envoy here, said the strong bond between India and Israel was reinforced by the closer partnership of Indian and Jewish communities in the US. India strong enough to deal with any insurgency, threat, says Punjab governor after opening Military Literature Festival in Chandigarh
Punjab governor VP Singh Badnore inaugurated the third edition of the Military Literature Festival (MLF) at the Lake Club, Sector 1, here on Friday morning.Stating that dialogue is the only way forward to resolve issues concerning the nation, Badnore said that India is strong enough to deal with any insurgency and threat.He said that strikes by Indian armed forces across the Line of Control shows that the country has the capability and competence to secure its borders, including naval routes.The three-day festival, which will conclude on December 15, has no entry fee and is open to all.The event is an international forum to exchange knowledge about the armed forces, besides acquainting youngsters with the country’s military heritage.At least 22 panel discussions on issues of military and national significance are being organised during the event.
