Mumbai: Anil Ambani-led Reliance Power said Thursday that the company, along with partner JERA of Japan, has achieved financial closure for its 745 megawatts (mw) Bangladesh unit by tying up funds with a group of lenders that includes Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Asian Development Bank (AD B ). In 2019, Reliance Power announced a debt-restructuring deal with US Exim Bank for its Samalkot project in Andhra Pradesh, which was rendered defunct due to lack of gas supply to it. Reliance Power said that it has received the approval from the Export Import Bank of the United States to sell the first module of equipment to Samsung C&T Corporation of South Korea, who is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the Bangladesh unit ... » Learn More about Reliance Power-JERA JV achieves financial closure for 745 Mw-Bangladesh unit

US military action not a good omen: China Daily editorial
The US strike in eastern Syria on Friday shows the new US administration under Joe Biden, for all its stated willingness to amend its predecessor's foreign policy woes, has no intention of changing the US policy in the Middle East. This is certainly not good news for either the region or the world at large. In what was intended, and widely perceived to be a strike with limited scope and time frame, the United States struck the positions of Iran-backed militia groups in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour near the Iraqi border, killing 22 fighters. The US claimed it was responding to the recent rocket attacks launched by the militia groups on US forces in the region. But the strike serves multiple purposes, not least sending the message that the US is willing to again flex its military muscles to advance its interests in international settings. Being locked in a proxy war in Syria, the US throwing its weight behind the rebels which are in a defensive position against the ... » Learn More about US military action not a good omen: China Daily editorial

NSE technical glitch cost us immensely, says FM Nirmala Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday asked civil accounts officers to have a clear road map for seamless digital payments, saying there were lessons to be learnt from the “technology-driven glitch” that happened at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) last week. “Seamlessness of payments is more important... I will bring it here as an example to say even where complete foolproof systems are laid, you find in the NSE a couple of days ago when there was a glitch, a kind of technology-driven glitch, which nobody could have anticipated, but that glitch has cost us immensely and lessons are being learnt,” the minister said addressing the 45th Civil Accounts Day.
